MTM Case-Gard Shoulder Gard Rifle Rest
Imagine it’s the first day of rifle or muzzleloader season for deer and after waiting patiently for several hours for “Big Boy” to show up he does. You steady your rifle and take perfect aim just behind the shoulder and squeeze the trigger. You are expecting the deer to fall in his tracks right?
The second day of muzzleloader last year here in NC the very same thing happened to me. An easy 100 yard shot was a miss. Actually I missed twice. I thought that the scope was on. After all I had loaned the gun to a Mike the day before and he had killed a nice 6 pointer. I was wrong and so I decided to purchase a rifle sighting system. I had been farming my guns out to have them sighted and was tired of the inconvenience.
I was looking to spend no more than $50 on a bench rest and most everything that I came across that looked appealing was much more than that. I thought that I needed a product that was made out of steel because after all “if it ain’t steel it ain’t real”. I decided however to buy a MTM Case Gard product called the Shoulder-Gard. The unit has a flip top tray where you can add extra weight when shooting rifles and shotguns with a heavy kick. For me the only gun that I own with a heavy kick is my Charles Daly Slug Gun.
Being made from a heavy duty molded plastic the rest isn’t going to rust like steel. On the front and rear of the rest is durable foam that cradles my guns without scratching them. There’s even a nylon strap on the rear that I can use to hold the butt of my gun in place when firing. The simple one piece front rest has an adjustable mechanism for raising and lowering the front of your gun.
When you pair the Shoulder-Gard rest with the Predator molded shooting table you have a steady platform to shoot from and with the ability to add weight into the rest you don’t have to worry about it coming off of the table when firing a heavy kicking gun. The rest can also be used as a service station for your guns making it a dual purpose rest.
The only thing I found wrong with this rest is the fact that I didn’t order it before deer season. If you’re looking for a good quality rest at an affordable price check out www.mtmcase-gard.com. They’re a family run God fearing company right here in the U.S.A.
